Sometimes, and it depends entirely on where you are. Round the clock service was once the chain's signature, and plenty of restaurants still run it, but a single yes or no answer would be wrong. During the pandemic a large number of locations moved to fixed daily hours and many never went back, so overnight service is no longer something you can assume. The pattern is geographic rather than random. Where there is genuine overnight demand, the restaurant stays open. Where there is not, it closes.

The most common question about IHOP is not really about opening hours at all. People want to know when they can get pancakes. The answer is the whole point of the brand: breakfast is served all day, every hour the doors are open. There is no cut off at 11:00 AM and no switch to a lunch-only menu.

What does change through the day is everything else. Opening hours and service windows are two different things, and mixing them up is where most confusion starts.

Delivery is the one worth double checking. If you are ordering late, the delivery window on the app frequently closes well before the restaurant itself does, so a location that is still serving in the dining room may show as unavailable for delivery. IHOP is one of the few sit down chains that keeps trading through most of the holiday calendar. Breakfast demand does not stop for a public holiday, so the majority of restaurants open as normal. Christmas Day and Christmas Eve are the two real exceptions.

Weekend mornings run long

Saturday and Sunday breakfast is the busiest trade of the week. Opening time is usually unchanged, but many locations add staff and a number open an hour early during holiday weekends. A wait of thirty minutes or more between 9:00 AM and noon on a Sunday is normal, not a sign that something has gone wrong.

Breakfast really is all day

This is the question asked more than any other, and the answer is simple. There is no breakfast cut off. Pancakes, omelettes, French toast and the full breakfast menu are served for every hour the restaurant is open. You can order a short stack at 8:00 PM without a problem.

How to confirm your restaurant

Use the locator on ihop.com or search the address in Google Maps. Both pull the schedule the individual franchise has filed, which is always more accurate than a national figure. Google Maps also shows live busy times, useful on a weekend morning.

The fastest check

Search "IHOP" in Google Maps. The hours panel shows the schedule that restaurant has filed, today's closing time in bold, and a live busy indicator. If it trades overnight the panel reads "Open 24 hours" instead of a closing time.

When to phone instead

Three situations are worth a call rather than a search: any public holiday, especially Christmas Eve and Christmas Day; a late night visit where you need certainty rather than a listing; and a large group, where knowing the wait matters more than knowing the hours. Filed hours can be out of date after a schedule change, and a phone call never is.
